How do I cite a source that I have found in another source?

Avoid using secondary sources unless there is a risk that the information has been altered in some way. If no other option is available, consult your supervisor/teacher first. 

The secondary source and the citation of the original source should be included in your text, but only the secondary source is listed in the reference list. 

Example of a reference according to APA 7/ APA Blog 

In your text: (Sparrow, 1863, as cited in Smith, 2014). 

In your reference list:  

Smith, J. (2014). Docking fees and undeclared goods. The Black Pearl. 

Example of a reference according to the Harvard system / Lund University 

In your text: (Sparrow, 1863 cited in Smith, 2014). 

In your reference list:  

Smith, J. (2014). Docking fees and undeclared goods. Port Royal: The Black Pearl. 

Example of a reference according to Vancouver / Uppsala University 

In your  text: 

Sparrow, as cited by Smith (1), argues that... 

In the your reference list:  

Smith, J. Docking fees and undeclared goods. Port Royal: The Black Pearl; 2014.
